Clinic provides asthma training to Virginia Beach PE Teachers & Nurses

A community partnership between Virginia Beach City Public Schools and Allergy & Asthma Specialists is helping educate PE Teachers and nurses at all grade levels about Exercise Induced Asthma and mimic Exercise Induced Asthma. The in-service training consisted of six seminars atvarious Virginia Beach publicschools from Aug– Oct 2011.

The in-service training consisted of six seminars at various Virginia Beach public schools from August – October.

The seminars were conducted by Dr. Craig Koenig, Dr. Gary Moss and Dr. Gregory Pendell, and included:

• Asthma overview
• How to recognize Exercise Induced Asthma
• How to recognize mimics of Exercise Induced Asthma
• Asthma triggers
• Treatment
• Preventative treatment

“The interaction with the PE teachers and nurses was invaluable for all involved,” said Dr. Koenig. “It gave us insight into what the teachers and nurses are hearing and experiencing from the students and parents; and it provided the educators and nurses with solid information they can use to help their students.”
