Help save patient access to Allergy Shots
The doctors and staff at Allergy & Asthma Specialists ask for your help to save patient access to allergy shots (allergen immuno- therapy) by signing the online petition listed below.
The petition requests that current allergy shot requirements NOT be altered by the United States Pharmacopeia (USP). Their proposed changes could dramatically limit patient access to allergy shots in Hampton Roads and throughout the U.S.
USP is a scientific, nonprofit organization that sets standards for the identity, strength, quality, and purity of medicines, food ingredients, and dietary supplements manufactured, distributed and consumed worldwide. USP’s drug standards are enforceable in the United States by the Food and Drug Administration.
If you or a family member receives allergy shots, USP changes could affect you in a negative way. For more details about this issue and to sign the online petition to stop these changes, please click here.
We thank you in advance for taking the time to sign this important petition.
We have been informed that the pharmaceutical company Sanofi has recalled its Auvi-Q epinephrine auto-injectors, saying they potentially could deliver the wrong-sized dose.
If you or your child were prescribed this medication, please call the Allergy & Asthma Specialists office you are seen at to speak with one of our nurses to request a new prescription for an Epi-Pen:
Virginia Beach office - (757) 481-4383
Chesapeake office - (757) 547-7702
Norfolk office - (757) 583-4382
Sanofi’s U.S. division said in a news release there have been 26 cases of suspected malfunctions. There have been no deaths.
Patients have described symptoms of "underlying hypersensitivity reaction," Sanofi said.
"We're doing this voluntary recall as a precaution," said Dr. Paul Chew, global chief medical officer for Sanofi, "and we have temporarily stopped manufacturing."
Chew advised people who have one of the recalled epinephrine injectors to call their doctors and get a prescription for a new and different auto-injector.
